Mama's Kitchen, founded in 1990, is a San Diego-based nonprofit providing no-cost, medically tailored home-delivered meals to residents living with critical illnesses, including HIV, cancer, congestive heart failure, type 2 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Located in City Heights, a deeply distressed neighborhood, Mama's Kitchen serves San Diego County's most economically vulnerable residents, with 98% of clients living below the low-income threshold.
The organization is the only "Food is Medicine Coalition” accredited medically tailored meal provider on the West Coast, delivering dietitian prescribed meals and nutrition counseling through partnerships with 400+ healthcare providers across San Diego County.
Mama's Kitchen is using the New Markets Tax Credit investment to support its operations and its capacity to serve more critically ill San Diegans. This investment, over the next 7 years, will assist the organization with retaining 31 permanent full-time jobs and providing over 1 million total services to 5,165 unique individuals annually.
